WEATHERBRAINS: A very special show is in store tonight. We will cover the epic April 27, 2011 outbreak in Alabama in detail, with visits from Jason Simpson, John Oldshue, Mike Wilhelm and John Brown, as well as the regular cast of characters, who all were actively covering the event last Wednesday. Listen live on UStream at 8 p.m. CDT (notice the early start), or later on iTunes or at www.weatherbrains.com.
This is the main organization for all contributions including blood, monetary and volunteering
Here are their Bullet Points:
Damage assessment in affected areas to ensure we identify each and every person who needs help.
Caseworkers are beginning to meet with survivors in affected areas to assist them with immediate, emergency disaster caused needs.
One shelter remains open in Geiger, Alabama; a town about an hour south of Tuscaloosa which sustained heavy damage.
Mobile feeding of hot meals and snacks as well as the distribution of clean up kits is ongoing. The Red Cross has nine Emergency Response Vehicles stationed throughout the state for this purpose and they were used to respond immediately.
Additional trained staff and volunteers and supplies are arriving daily to help with the response effort.
A Disaster Operations Center has been set up in the Birmingham area and additional staging areas are located closer to the affected areas.
Disaster Mental Health workers are working with storm survivors to offer emotional support and help them deal with the stress disasters can cause.
There are many great organizations out there and we will eventually get a comprehensive list but one that has really sparked off great numbers of followers is Toomer’s for Tuscaloosa….keep up the great work!!!
